Saturday:At Home With the Home Guard

For the past few days we have been in Norfolk. It has been a lovely time, but the lack of internet access is something we really miss.
For any of you out there in Blogland wondering what we have been getting up to, I will do my best to catch up!
We started by stopping off half way at a small town called Thetford. It is the home to the "Dads Army Museum." Our family really enjoy these old programmes so it was a "must see" for us.
It's free to get in, so if you are in the area I would definitely recommend it. Its not very big, but very informative. You can also go on a trail for places where filming has taken place.

There is a lovely little tea room, where all the cakes are made to wartime recipes. Very reasonably priced too.

A pot of tea for four of us and a slice of cake each cost around £6.

I chose chocolate and beetroot cake.

and an Anzac biscuit

it was all very quaint indeed

This is a mock up of Captain Mainwaring's  Office

We were delighted to see this prop from one of the episodes as we had only seen it a few days beforehand!

We also saw the episode with this well in not too long ago.

There was plenty to see, sadly the real van was not on site that day, but we had already been forewarned so weren't disappointed.

Thetford itself is very pleasant to walk around

and we thought this butchers shop had chosen an ideal name!

It was a short walk to find the Captain Mainwaring statue by the river.

Had we had longer, a walk along the riverside would have been a treat.

It was the hottest day we had experienced for a long time, and we were relieved to finally arrive at our holiday home for the week.

The décor was lovely and it was very airy and light

It was a lovely place to come home to each afternoon.

and each evening we relaxed in the hot tub!
