Never Too Old for Dressing Up!

As you all know, Teen One had to go into work dressed up today. We had spent Sunday afternoon making a simple grass skirt...and here she is!

The flowers might look pretty, but they are apparently very itchy to wear!

Tomorrow she is going off to Bible Camp, and for the first time will not be a regular camper, but a J.O. "Junior Officer." She isn't too sure of all her duties, but it will be giving practical help to the workers, serving up the food, clearing up etc. She is looking forward to not having to do the sports participation and sharing a tent with rowdy teens! The J.O's get to have their own tent.
Part of being a J.O. is also, going to the local market town, dressed up, and the campers have to find as many as they can in an allotted time.
So, yet again, we find ourselves thinking about dressing up outfits!
She has decided to dress up as Dorothy from The Wizard Of Oz.

We saw this dress in Primark a couple of years ago and both thought "a Dorothy dress!" She has worn in once or twice in the summer but has been waiting for an opportunity to use it dressed as Dorothy...its finally arrived!

Finding the right shoes was a real challenge! We only knew she needed to dress up a few days ago, so its been a bit of a rush trying to find something, and of course she has been at work every day, so Teen Two and I have been trawling the shops for her.
Today I had all but given up hope when as a last resort I said to Teen Two "lets try a charity shop." Can you believe the first shop we went into had this pair, in the right size too! Now I knew straight away she would not like the pointy ends...she hates them with a vengeance, but at this stage of the game beggars can't be choosers! At only £3.75 I thought we weren't losing much if they didn't actually fit.
Thankfully they fit fine, and I am so pleased to have found the right shade, even with a bow... and in a style she can easily walk around town in!
We just need to look through Teen Two's stack of soft toys and find a Toto!

The dress is a little low, and one or two other dresses she has are similar. Modesty panels are really useful and I have quite a few. We do have a white one, but the lace has turned yellow in some parts and bleach hasn't whitened it up at all. So today I set about making her one

It fits fine and she even wore it tonight when we went out for a meal, so I guess that means it has the thumbs up!

Talking of a meal out...this is where we went...Chimichanga. We haven't been to one before, but are Tex Mex food lovers so knew it was a safe choice. We had given Teen One the decision of choosing where to go, after all we were going to celebrate her hard work over the past year so it seemed only fair!

It was a lovely meal and very nice surroundings.

We will miss her next week when she is away, but know she will be having a great time.

  1. What a busy girl teen one is. Her feet have hardly touched the ground this past couple of weeks. It is a good job you have teen two to help you. Xxx
