Upcycling Old T-Shirts

Today was a little different to our normal routine, and whilst church life and roast beef was part of the schedule...with no Grandma here this weekend, the afternoon panned out a little different to usual.
No game of Scrabble, no afternoon naps, no proper tea!
With no Grandma, we had a dessert which ended up being more unusual than we had anticipated...chocolate pizza...not the first time we have had it, but worth repeating...with ice cream and a sauce we brought back from the US...we had no idea until it was poured out that is was blue!!

As it was such a lovely day, we had planned a walk along a canal, which although only 15miles away...we have only just discovered!
However, our neighbour's son asked me and Hubby in to check out some items he wanted us to have.
For me it was this lovely crochet blanket.
It used to lay over a bedroom chair and I always admired it (but never said anything)
so was delighted to be offered it!

Hubby, on the other hand, was offered what ever tools he wanted.
Now it wasn't just a case of looking through a tool box or two...there was an entire double garage full of cupboards, drawers and the like, full of tools!
It was a bit like an Aladdin's cave for Hubby, and consequently the afternoon walk didn't transpire as he spent so much time going through just a few places!
He has come away with plenty of goodies and the offer for more if he wants.
If we only had the room!

Teen Two spent the time making up his new Star Wars  Lego model...

...whilst Teen One and I , armed with the laptop for instructions, four wire coat hangers, two old t-shirts, some safety pins, a piece of cardboard and a newly acquired pair of pliers ( having nipped out to the garage to ask "surely you can turn you hands to a spare pair of pliers"...and was promptly shown a drawer full!)
set to making something we had seen in the US...

...doesn't look very inspiring here does it...

...but just add the finishing touch....

...and hey presto...a cat tent! With one very inquisitive cat poking its head inside within seconds of it being made!

Crystal positively LOVED hers!

We put the second tshirt on long ways instead of side ways...thinking it would be easier for the cats to get in....

...but that meant there wasn't enough tshirt left to neatly pin up on the bottom...so I used an elastic band to tie it up instead!
As usual, making the tents was not quite as simple as the instructions suggest...however it wasn't that much of a faff and definitely worth the effort and a good use of favourite
t shirts that no longer fit!

Today's Psalm:
This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

  1. Another interesting day, but also unusual. I feel so sorry for your neighbours son having to clear out another house, especially one that has so many emotional ties. Well done on the cat tents!!! Xxxx

    1. He found an old love letter his dad wrote when he was demobbed...so strange to think of him as a 20yr old drawing love hearts out of kisses and writing such romantic things! Its going to take some time to get it all cleared that's for sure
