A Supersonic Day

Although today is a Bank Holiday here in the UK, it was to be an early start for us, as I had a little surprise in store for Hubby!
So at 6.45am I went downstairs and made a cuppa for him, to sweeten the shock of being woken up early  (he had said last night..."great a lie in tomorrow!")
Having given him his cuppa I announced he needed to be ready for 9am as we were going on a mystery tour...ahead of his birthday tomorrow.
The Teens had of course been in on the secret for a while, and were dutifully spending their day off school/college to indulge their dad in one of his passions....

...planes...but not just any plane...this was Concorde!
I had heard last year that a friend had been taken here and I just knew it was Hubby's kind of day out...although I was surprised he hadn't actually realised Concorde was so near.
So...a plan was hatched and today we fulfilled what must seem like a dream to go on board Concorde.
It has been one of those romantic iconic designs that captured Hubby's heart years ago...add to that the sheer force of engineering to make this supersonic machine, and learning more of it's tragic history today, even I was feeling emotional that she no longer flew!
The undercarriage is incredibly high and yet the wheels so small!
Hubby made the most of the day...taking endless pictures....
...and sharing his passion of all things aircrafty with the Teens.
Even I was amazed at the information available to us...can you believe this calculator has more
processing power than the control unit!
We all had boarding passes and a certificate, a lovely touch.
As well as aircraft there was a London Bus museum...this one was on Downton Abbey and Mr Selfridge.
There was a motor museum too...this one is always going to be my favourite....this was a reproduction, but we have seen the original when on tour some years ago...
..and some young lad would once have been the proud owner of this delightful little model!
There was so much there to see, much from the world wars, always interesting, and today was also Emergency Day, so there were fire engines, ambulances, police cars etc from years gone by.
For the younger ones Fireman Sam paid a visit!
It was a great day and the rain held off for our picnic lunch.
On the way home Hubby remembered his uncle had given him a model of Concorde, to pass on to Teen Two "when he was older"
Today seemed as appropriate a day as any!
As Uncle J has now passed away it was a little sad that he is no longer here to say thank you to, but Teen Two really appreciated this kind thought from so many years ago.
It's been a great day and a lovely end to a long weekend, but not quite the end of the birthday treats... is of course the duty of the birthday boy to take in cakes for all his work I currently have four cakes cooling down and two more in the rest for me just yet!

Today's Promise:
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
