Special Olympics Superstars

This morning was an early start for a Saturday, Teen One was off on a young peoples Bible study day near Oxford.
A friend is taking her son and Teen One and Hubby is doing the evening drive to bring them back.
Hubby had to go to church this morning, via B&Q to buy and then fix a new loo seat.
I busied myself in the kitchen making a cake for tomorrows tea...
...and then finally finishing off the last of the Christmas turkey.
Yesterday I made a turkey and cranberry curry ( using dried cranberries...very yum!)
Today the final scraps complimented the stock from a piece of gammon I cooked last weekend.
With some yellow split peas added, the soup did not have a very appealing look...but everyone said it was very tasty.
This afternoon was all about Teen Two and the Special Olympics which was taking place.
Teen Two took part in the javelin...

...shot put...
...and team relay...he was too fast for the camera even!
The team won a medal which they all thoroughly deserved.
They then had their photo taken with the Lord Mayor.
There were a couple of hundred competitors, from all over the south east.
Whilst the Special Olympics is for people of all ages with intellectual disabilities...some of the competitors had some physical disabilities to contend with as well, but it didn't stop their enthusiasm and looking around made me feel both humble and proud.
Humble that I have neither physical or intellectual disabilities and how often I fail to appreciate how I can do the simplest of tasks without even thinking about.
Proud that not only Teen Two, but all those there today put their all into their events, behaved impeccably and had excellent sportsmanship...they were all truly superstars!
