Happy 16th Birthday Teen Two!

Today is of course Teen Two's 16th birthday!
Here he is on his first birthday...a chuckling, happy bundle of fun!
How we got to here....
... a fine young man in almost the exact same spot in the room, is a mystery!
I was there for every day of it ( and many nights!) but time plays tricks with you doesn't minute they are babies and some days ( and especially nights!) can seem endless...and yet before we know it they are all grown up.
Even at the age of 16 though, he still loves his Lego, and here are his two new Star Wars presents.
Little did we know in that shot of him on his first birthday, that his journey, and consequently ours too, would be different to the one we had expected.
Any parent of a child with learning difficulties will know the heartache that comes with their child not developing as "normal" and will also know the feeling of questioning "what is normal?"
Our children have a tenderness and innocence that "normal" folk often lack...some see that as a characteristic to poke fun at, others feel they can take advantage of them and some want to shun them.
As parents, we hope as they grow up and maybe grow away from us, they will find people who will want to embrace the "difference" in them and harness their unique qualities.
As Christians, it has of course always been our prayer that our children would grow up to love the Lord, and we are thankful that they both do.
With that foundation right, we can be sure no matter what life throws at them, they will have the Lord by their side, guiding them and being there when things get rough.
What more could a parent ask for!
